Emergency Department Management in New Jersey
Hospital administrators evaluating a partner in ED management consider clinical outcomes, operational metrics, and long-term stability. Pegasus Emergency Group, PA delivers on all three, with nearly three decades of documented results. We bring together board-certified emergency physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and administrative leaders to run emergency departments from the ground up, covering everything from clinical staffing and patient flow to EMR implementation and quality assurance.
Our philosophy of care is simple. People come first, both those we partner with and those we serve. Because of this, Pegasus Emergency Group, PA is committed to:
- Delivering superior patient care from admission through discharge.
- Realizing client objectives in a cost-effective, efficient manner.
Working daily to achieve and promote this philosophy, we create an atmosphere of collaboration and success that benefits patients and encourages clinical excellence through industry-leading emergency care, streamlined processes, and innovation.
Ongoing Management, Not a One-Time Setup
For administrators who’ve worked with management groups that disappear after implementation, what matters most is what happens next. At Pegasus Emergency Group, PA, EMS coordination is an integral, ongoing part of how we manage patient flow at each partner facility, not a one-time configuration. We work directly with area EMS agencies to improve transfer-of-care processes and streamline patient arrival throughout the life of our engagement.
Performance improvement works the same way. We set goals around your ED’s specific objectives, then return after implementation to evaluate what’s working and what needs adjustment. Metrics we track include patient satisfaction, employee retention, admission volume, patient outcomes, and department profitability. The goal isn’t a strong first quarter. It’s a department that can keep improving year over year, as our Hunterdon Health partnership has demonstrated since 1996.

Every staff member we came in contact with was fabulous- From our check-in staff to the person who pushed her bed into the ct scan room (Glen), to the doctors and nurses (Shannon was one of our nurses). They were professional and so nice. The hospital itself was clean and accommodating. We were in a room within 10 minutes. Great experience.Kim B.

I want to thank the Medical team for their fast work in the emergency room and a doctor who saved my husband's life. The ICU unit was also top notch medical staff who went above and beyond to take care of my husband. This hospital is a great hospital to go to and to send your family member. They are all knowledgeable, dedicated, caring and just a great team that will find a solution to your medical emergency and I just want to say thank you.Tina W.

Emergency room staff was amazing. I was seen quickly because my hand was broken. Triage nurse was the sweetest, my nurse was lovely, x-ray tech was quick and kind, the PA attending to my case was knowledgeable, friendly, and very nice as well. The PCTs that applied my soft cast were so so sweet and gentle. I didn’t even feel like I was in a hospital and I was treated so well. People were constantly coming in to see how I was doing and making sure I was comfortable. If I could give more stars I would!Noelle K.

The best emergency room and hospital in a 30 mile radius. I’ve been here on several occasions but today for the first time for myself. Always have been taken care of professionally, nurses and doctors are some of the best in their craft that I’ve seen and I have such an appreciation for them. Went from feeling like I was dying to brand new in 4 short hours which is incredible for a ER if you’re aware of what it can usually be.Bobby P.

He took time with me and came and spoke with me again when he was leaving to let me know what was happening and who the next doctor would be.Satisfied Patient

He left me with the confidence that I was in capable hands he attended to me. When my bloodwork came back and registered high he discussed this with me and took the time to contact my Nephrologist and discuss it with him. He had me follow up the next day with blood work. Fortunately the levels had returned to normal and further action was not required. Once again I cannot say enough good things about Dr Mehta.Satisfied Patient

I am impressed with his ability to adapt to different patients and remember the He also brought my whole family juice and came to check on me even though his shift had ended hours ago. I was very grateful to have his help during my visit.Satisfied Patient
Facilitating Profitability & Patient Satisfaction
Our partnership with Hunterdon Health has run continuously since 1996. In that time, ED volume has doubled to approximately 35,000 annual visits. Our Press Ganey patient satisfaction scores consistently rank in the 90th to 99th percentile, and we maintain near-100% compliance with CMS core measures, supported by a scribe and documentation program across our partner facilities. These aren’t projections. They’re the documented record of what disciplined ED management produces over time.
The numbers from our three-year engagement at Meadowlands Hospital show the same trajectory. We increased ED volume by 30%, improved Press Ganey scores by 400%, and brought the left-without-being-seen rate below 1%. The cardiology team at Hunterdon Health, working under Pegasus Emergency Group, PA leadership, achieved a 56-minute average door-to-cath-lab time for MI patients, among the fastest in New Jersey. Dr. Edward Spector, MD, FACEP, FAAEM (Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine), also led Hunterdon Health through obtaining Primary Stroke Center designation from the New Jersey Department of Health, a credential not standard to all emergency departments.
Dr. Spector has served as President of Pegasus Emergency Group, PA and Chairman of Emergency Medicine at Hunterdon Health since 2004. Dr. Nimish Mehta, MD, FACEP, FAAEM, joined Pegasus in 2002, became partner in 2007, and serves as Vice President and Medical Director of Hunterdon Urgent Care. Together, they bring more than four decades of leadership inside this organization. That continuity is reflected in the recognition we’ve received: 15 consecutive Best of Flemington Awards for Medical Services Organization from 2009 through 2023, and the 2022 Spirit of Hunterdon Award for our impact on the health system and community.
Our partner hospitals experience measurable improvement in patient volume, satisfaction ratings, and profitability.
