Emergency Medicine Leadership Since 1996

About Pegasus Emergency Group, PA

Pegasus Emergency Group, PA started with a simple belief that emergency departments run better when the people leading them are genuinely invested in the patients walking through the door and the hospital partners they serve. Since 1996, we’ve been building that kind of partnership at Hunterdon Health in New Jersey, and what we’ve built there tells you everything about how we work.

Dr. Edward Spector, MD, FACEP, FAAEM, has served as President of Pegasus Emergency Group, PA and as Chairman of Emergency Medicine at Hunterdon Health since 2004. He joined Pegasus in 1998 after completing his Emergency Medicine residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, and he’s shaped the clinical and operational philosophy that runs through everything we do. Dr. Nimish Mehta, MD, FACEP, FAAEM, joined Pegasus in 2002 and became partner in 2007. Today, he serves as Vice President, Assistant Director of the Emergency Department, and Medical Director of Hunterdon Urgent Care. Together, they’ve led a team that doesn’t just staff emergency departments; it improves them.

If your hospital is looking for an emergency medicine management partner with a proven record across New Jersey, we welcome the conversation. Call (908) 237-5420 to speak with our team.

What We’ve Built, & What It Means for Your Hospital

The results we’ve achieved for partner hospitals aren’t projections or promises. They’re documented outcomes built over years of consistent work.

Patient Satisfaction & Volume Growth

Our emergency departments consistently earn Press Ganey customer satisfaction scores in the 90th to 99th percentile. Since our partnership at Hunterdon Health began in 1996, ED volume has grown from roughly 17,500 to approximately 35,000 annual visits. At Meadowlands Hospital, where we managed the department for three years, ED volume increased by 30%, and Press Ganey scores improved by 400%.

Clinical Performance & Accreditation

Working alongside Hunterdon Health’s cardiology team, we helped establish the Primary Angioplasty Center and have consistently achieved door-to-balloon heart attack treatment times under 60 minutes, reaching a 56-minute average for MI patients. We also led Hunterdon Health through the process of earning Primary Stroke Center designation, a credential that isn’t standard to most emergency departments and one that required significant clinical and operational commitment to achieve.

Performance Under Pressure

When conditions were at their worst, our record held. During our tenure at Meadowlands Hospital, when Hurricane Sandy shut down emergency departments across Hudson County, Meadowlands was the only ED that remained open. We helped create two satellite EDs during both Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane Irene. That’s not a credential we list casually. It’s a reflection of what genuine investment in a community looks like when it matters most.

How We Run an Emergency Department

We approach each partnership by first understanding your department’s specific staffing needs, patient flow challenges, and operational gaps. From there, our management team makes recommendations across the full scope of ED operations: admission procedures, EMR and records technology, staffing structure, billing services, and patient support measures. We work directly with area EMS agencies to improve transfer-of-care processes, and we maintain near 100% compliance with CMS core measures through a scribe and documentation program implemented across our partner facilities.

Improvement doesn’t stop at implementation. We set performance goals tailored to your ED’s objectives and regularly re-evaluate clinical and operational procedures to support ongoing gains in patient satisfaction, employee retention, admission volume, patient outcomes, and profitability. The goal is a department that keeps getting better.

A Partnership Worth Trusting

In 2022, Pegasus Emergency Group, PA received the Spirit of Hunterdon Award, recognized for our impact on Hunterdon Health and the surrounding community over more than two decades. We were also selected for the Best of Flemington Awards for Medical Services Organization for 15 consecutive years, from 2009 through 2023. We don’t list those to impress; they reflect relationships we’ve invested in for a long time.

If you’re evaluating emergency medicine management partners for your hospital, reach out to Pegasus Emergency Group, PA today at (908) 237-5420. The results are real, the leadership is accessible, and the approach is built around your department’s goals, not a one-size-fits-all model.

"Had such a great experience this morning with my 12 year old daughter."
Every staff member we came in contact with was fabulous- From our check-in staff to the person who pushed her bed into the ct scan room (Glen), to the doctors and nurses (Shannon was one of our nurses). They were professional and so nice. The hospital itself was clean and accommodating. We were in a room within 10 minutes. Great experience.

    "Thank you."
I want to thank the Medical team for their fast work in the emergency room and a doctor who saved my husband's life. The ICU unit was also top notch medical staff who went above and beyond to take care of my husband. This hospital is a great hospital to go to and to send your family member. They are all knowledgeable, dedicated, caring and just a great team that will find a solution to your medical emergency and I just want to say thank you.

    "Emergency room staff was amazing."
Emergency room staff was amazing. I was seen quickly because my hand was broken. Triage nurse was the sweetest, my nurse was lovely, x-ray tech was quick and kind, the PA attending to my case was knowledgeable, friendly, and very nice as well. The PCTs that applied my soft cast were so so sweet and gentle. I didn’t even feel like I was in a hospital and I was treated so well. People were constantly coming in to see how I was doing and making sure I was comfortable. If I could give more stars I would!

    "The best emergency room."
The best emergency room and hospital in a 30 mile radius. I’ve been here on several occasions but today for the first time for myself. Always have been taken care of professionally, nurses and doctors are some of the best in their craft that I’ve seen and I have such an appreciation for them. Went from feeling like I was dying to brand new in 4 short hours which is incredible for a ER if you’re aware of what it can usually be.

"The doctor I saw was great."
He took time with me and came and spoke with me again when he was leaving to let me know what was happening and who the next doctor would be.

"Dr Mehta was phenomenal, he made me feel completely at ease as he explained everything to me."
He left me with the confidence that I was in capable hands he attended to me. When my bloodwork came back and registered high he discussed this with me and took the time to contact my Nephrologist and discuss it with him. He had me follow up the next day with blood work. Fortunately the levels had returned to normal and further action was not required. Once again I cannot say enough good things about Dr Mehta.

"The ER doctor clearly loves what he does and cares about his patients."
I am impressed with his ability to adapt to different patients and remember the He also brought my whole family juice and came to check on me even though his shift had ended hours ago. I was very grateful to have his help during my visit.
